Most common questions I am asked

What is coaching and how can I benefit?

I answer these questions below and I will go into much greater detail in future blog posts.

Q. What is coaching?

The Association for Coaching defines coaching as “a collaborative solution-focused, results-orientated and systematic process in which the coach facilitates the enhancement of work performance, life experience, self-directed learning and personal growth of the coachee.”

For me, coaching is about looking at where you are NOW, and looking FORWARD. Not back. It is about working out where it is you want to get to, and then supporting you in getting there.

Q. How does one-to-one coaching work, and does it work?

Many people will choose to self-coach and many organisations will choose to train in-house coaches to support their individuals and teams. Some of the benefits of one-to-one coaching by an independent external professional can include:

  • Better self awareness and self reflection

  • Increased individual performance and productivity

  • Higher motivation and commitment

  • Better leadership skills

  • Sustainable personal growth and development

  • Higher quality of life or better work/life balance

  • Clarity in purpose and meaning

  • Better management of change processes e.g. flexibility and adaptability

  • Improved communication and relationships

  • Efficient implementation of acquired skills and learning

  • Faster and more effective response to situations

How much does coaching cost, and is it expensiVe?
